Creekside Cellars: Delicious wines in Evergreen, Colorado!

On a very recent day off for my husband, I finally convinced him to come explore a new town in Colorado, Evergreen, nestled in the mountains with spectacular water and lake views, and a little tasting room that is under new ownership, Creekside Cellars Winery. For an initial tasting of their wines, we wound up spending the better part of an hour talking with the new owner, Jacqueline!

First, let me guide you through this quaint little area. There are boutique shops that are well-stocked with plenty of items for yourself, your family, and anyone else you can think of. Secondly, there are plenty of places to get a snack, have a drink, and take a moment to listen to the sounds of water flowing from your table. And finally, Creekside Cellars has a spectacular selection of award-winning wines, and apparently an upcoming updated menu.

For our wine tasting, we started with their port. Extremely strong on the nose, but as it sits, it mellows into something that would pair very well with dark blackberries, strawberries, and chocolate so bitter that you’d make a mess. If interested in going in a more traditional order, definitely start with their viognier. A particularly surprising white, this was delicately floral on the nose, crisp, acidic on the palate, and honestly a white that I would pair seafood, pasta, and my recipe of eggplant caponata with a spicy twist to whet your appetite.

Up next was one of two roses. One had the classic pinkish hue, the other, a far deeper shade of red. Both completely different on our palates, with a difference in food pairings as well. Finally, four very special tastings of red wines. The 2018 cabernet sauvignon, 2023 malbec, 2019 robusto, and finally, the consistently award-winning cabernet franc. Every last tasting of these reds is distinctive in their own way. As for pairing them with a specific dish, there are too many ideas running in my head. You’ll just have to read about a food and wine series that may or may not be in development…. stay tuned!

Evergreen may not necessarily be on anyone’s bucket list of places to visit, but I highly recommend that you do. It is a beautiful, peaceful, quiet area that will transport you somewhere new, somewhere exciting, and hopefully, home.
